Professional Demos
When I lost my job in October 2022, I started looking for other remote work that I could do. I had lost my confidence in my accounting career, and I wanted to see what else was available. I was first inspired to move forward with voice acting by coming across a pro on YouTube who was advocating for people to go for it. I don’t remember who it was, but every since I found out that it was a viable thing I could do from home, I started researching how I could succeed.
My research eventually lead me to understand that having great coaching would be very beneficial to my overall career. I came across Such A Voice and I was immediately drawn to their program. The price was steep, but I decided that I would invest in myself and go for it. After all, they give you coaching, and then produce professional demos for you!
The topic of demos seem to be pretty controversial in the voice acting community. There are some advocates for DIY demos that you can continuously update as you improve, and that there is no need to have professional demos done. On the opposite side, some people think that DIY demos will herald the death of your career as a voice actor, because no one will take you seriously. I am somewhere in the middle. I don’t have the confidence (yet) to put together a string of spots to demonstrate my abilities, and I don’t have many completed jobs. I also believe that professional demos will help me get into the door with a super solid agent, especially after I get some more experience under my belt.
All of this to say - I recorded my demos with my Such A Voice producer! It was a really exciting experience. I actually went to a studio in Burbank to complete the process. I thought “Hey, how many chances will I have to go to a professional studio in the beginning of my career?” and went for it! I have to wait a few weeks to receive my demos, but they will be plastered front and center as soon as I get them back!
